We closed our pastry shop after 5 years and had to start from scratch.
Before coming to Madrid, we had our own business in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. It was called Bixcocho, and it was our first dream come true.
But after 5 years with this project, we understood that if we wanted to live peacefully and build a better future, we had to leave and make a decision that few dare to make: close everything down.
We sold the machines, turned off the oven, and with a couple of suitcases, we came to Madrid.
Upon arriving here, we had no premises, no customers, no contacts. Only our recipes, our savings, and the desire to start over.
For the first few months, we baked from a tiny kitchen within a "dark kitchen" and sold only online. The reviews were very good, but the revenue was not enough.
We were missing direct contact with people to be able to show our product. For people to see how good everything looked and to smell that freshly baked cookie scent that makes you crave something sweet.
So, with bank financing, support from friends, and a lot of willpower, we found a small place in Chamberí and started all over again.
Nowadays, when someone enters the store and tells us it smells amazing or comes back because they loved what they tried, that's when we feel that all the effort has been worth it.
